For years I have been wanting to visit an apple orchards. So one Sunday afternoon my husband & I decided to take our boys for a weekend adventure in Ellijay, Georgia to see Orchard Hills.
So we hauled them in the car and off we went. The scenic drive was peaceful and we got to enjoy a family game in the car that made the drive far more pleasurable.
The drive alone was a real treat for all of us. Except for the directions.
Mapquest had us going East instead of West on Highway 52 and had to re-route. But one good thing about going the opposite direction is that....we now know how to get to Burt's Pumpkin Patch and we got to explore a little more of Dawsonville and appreciate the glorious display of fall foliage .
We were so close to turning around and thankfully we stopped at this "Gourds" place to ask where the Apple Orchards are ......and thank goodness we did....the place was only a mile a way. Can you imagine if we decided just to turn around and headed back home? We would have a missed out on a pretty fantastic experience.
Remember this is our first trip ever. So seeing all the apples on the trees were completely enchanting. Although most of the trees were already harvested {harvest season ends at the last week of October}.....for the most part... the Rome apples trees still have a whole lot to pick from. And so picking we did.
And as most first time visitors would do, we picked a whole lot more than we really needed. Too much actually. But I have to tell you... the experience was truly enjoyable and is highly recommended.
This adventure definitely deserves a "two thumbs up" from our boys. So, if you haven't been, do put this on your check list. And if you're thinking of going this year, do visit soon because the Apple Jubilee is just about to come to an end.

Recess! by Charley hosted a fun Family Expo last Saturday. Moms and Dads brought their little ones to enjoy the modern facilities at Recess! It was a gorgeous Saturday afternoon & Heather Wooten toted her 12 weeks old as she watched her preschoolers bounced around the inflatable castle. Indoor Rock climbing, Wii Sports,Face Painting, Inflatables, Live Music and lots of fun events were available for the kids. Several lucky winners went home with Giveaways from YTB Travel and other local vendors that were there to offer their products and services.

For the last two days my husband and I have been frantically searching for elves that my son and daughter have been writing to every night. The story is that if you leave graham crackers and water along with a letter to Santa a particular elf will appear. I thought they were writing about the elf on the shelf so I put it on my sons night stand and when he woke up he called out to his sister and said look he just brought the elf on the shelf I guess our letter was no good.
We grilled them about these mysterious elves and found out they appear in places and come via email with demands, have ransom notes, get into things and have all kinds of stories which has got my kids attention to the point they spent two hours writing a second letter to make sure it was fantastic!
Yesterday morning I called my mom and asked have you heard of some mysterious elves that the kids are taking about and she was not aware of them. So I had my list I was going to Big Lots, Garden Ridge and various shops to find the biggest stuffed elf to put on their bed that night with a story to come with it. My husband happened to call me and said you will not believe this I am driving by Carol’s Hallmark and there is a line of people out the door and guess what they have in their hand! The ELVES!
Ours arrived doing what our children love in the morning eating chocolate chip muffins we woke up to a horrible sound this morning dogs barking and noise in the kitchen and ELVES making muffins. My daughter Erin said mom we got cooking elves! My kids were thrilled that they had an elf story to share with their teacher supposedly this has really been a hit! The lady at Hallmark told my husband she had already sold 50 and it was only 10:15am the previous day they sold 200. They come as a girl and a boy and they are called Santa’s little helper cost $10. I thought this would be information to pass around as kids can be vague.

A visit to the Olympic Park during the holiday season is a must. Make sure to bring your ice skates and enjoy a few rounds at the outdoor skating rink and sip on hot cocoa as you stroll to see the giant Christmas tree. We recently enjoyed an outing to the Georgia Aquarium and it was a great family fun day. It was relaxing and we got to explore the place a little more closer the second time around.
The Coral Kingdom was my favorite exhibit. The Sea Nettles' bright orange color were great to watch as they gracefully glide around their habitat. The garden eels popping their heads from the sand and the Mandarin Fish with its show stopping colors were fantastic new treats to experience.
If you're looking for a perfect family get away, make sure to put the Georgia Aquarium on your list.
